El proyecto Queer Portraits comenzó en 2005 y ha tenido 3 ediciones hasta la fecha. La propuesta del queer art parte de la teoría de que mientras el gay es una persona igual a un heterosexual en todo menos en el sexo, el queer es una persona diferente a un heterosexual en todo menos en el sexo. Lo queer no se limita de este modo a lo homosexual, propone un modo de vida particular y en cierto modo militante y tangente, excéntrico y de revisión de la realidad, de modo que no sólo existen artistas queer sino perspectivas o miradas queer.

Queer Portraits es un conjunto de piezas de videocreación de artistas españoles y extranjeros con propuestas muy diferentes, desde el más cercano a la teoría queer hasta el que puede leerse desde una perspectiva queer. Jugando con dicho término (raro, en castellano) ofrece una colección heterogénea de aproximaciones al tema clásico del retrato en formato audiovisual, así como un amplio abanico de temas propuestos por los artistas en torno a él: identidad, género, actitud, humor, recuerdo y política.

Queer Portraits ha mostrado trabajos de artistas emergentes que no han tenido cabida en otras muestras y trabajos inéditos en España de artistas nacionales e internacionales consagrados. Algunos de ellos han realizado piezas especialmente para esta muestra.

The Queer Portraits project, curated by David Trullo, began in 2005 and this is the third occasion on which it has been held. The basis of the queer art theory is that gays are equal to heterosexuals in everything but in sex, while queers are totally different to heterosexuals in everything but in sex. The “queer” is not restricted solely to homosexuality , it’s about proposing a particular way of life that is – to a certain degree – militant, tangent and eccentric and one that subjects reality to constant review, so that, ultimately, not only are there queer artists, but also queer perspectives or queer points of view.

The Queer Portraits project is a collection of videocreation pieces by Spanish and foreign artists based on different proposals that go from queer theory to queer perspectives. Playing with such a term, enables one to offer a heterogeneous collection of approaches to the classical theme of the portrait in audio-visual media, as well as a wide range of subjects proposed by the artists concerning identity, gender, attitude, humor, memories and politics.

Queer Portraits has shown works of emerging artists and unpublished works in Spain by national and international established artists,some of which have produced pieces specially for this show.
